Auden, WH
Auden, WHWH Auden (1907 - 1973) was born 21 February 1907, in York, the son of a physician. At first he was interested in science, but he soon turned to poetry. He attended Christ Church College, University of Oxford, and after graduation he became a schoolmaster in Scotland and England for five years.

In London he became known as a poet with leftist tendencies, publishing a book called Poems in the 1930's.

Auden also wrote three verse plays in collaboration with Christopher Isherwood.

In 1939 Auden moved to the US, where he became a citizen and was active as a poet, reviewer, lecturer and editor. As a poet, Auden has often been compared to TS Eliot. [edit]
