Greg Bear is a science fiction and fantasy author who has published more than thirty books professionally. To date, he has won two Hugo Awards and five Nebula Awards for his fiction and is one of two authors to win a Nebula in every category.
He is considered to be the natural heir to Arthur C Clarke. He also has the singular honor of being married to Astrid Anderson Bear, whose father was the renowned science fiction author Poul Anderson. They have two children, Erik and Alexandra and live near Seattle, Washington.
Apart from Clarke and Anderson, he cites his main literary influences as James Joyce, Fletcher Pratt and Olaf Stapledon.
Greg Bear is widely regarded as the premier modern writer of hard science fiction. His novels — which include Eon, Blood Music, Eternity, Queen of Angels and Moving Mars — have been translated into twelve languages.
Since quitting his last job in 1975, he has been a professional illustrator, freelance journalist, technical consultant, screenwriter, and a teacher/lecturer.
His most recent novel, Quantico, is a near-future examination of law enforcement, politics, and terror both domestic and religious. With each successive book that he completes, he continually earns his place among the greats, both contemporary and golden age, of the speculative fiction community. [edit]
