Patricia Briggs is an American author of fantasy fiction.
She was born in Butte, Montana in 1965, and lived in various cities in the Northwest before finally settling down in Washington State, where she now resides.
Briggs began writing in 1990 and produced her first novel, Masques, three years later. Masques was poorly received and sales were very low, but her next novel, Steal the Dragon (1995), garnered better sales and editorial reviews.
She then began writing multi-book stories which share the same world and characters, but are stand-alone novels. One of Briggs’s hallmarks is that she never leaves the reader with a cliffhanger ending, completing every story before beginning the next.
She started writing urban fantasy, a genre which was showing promising growth at the time, and signed a contract for three books, Moon Called (2006), Blood Bound (2007) and Iron Kissed (2008).
These novels formed the first three instalments in the Mercy Thompson series. She subsequently wrote three more novels for this series entitled Bone Crossed (2009), Silver Bone (2010) and River Marked (2011).
Briggs’s editor announced that there would be a total of nine books in the Mercy Thompson series, with two to follow after the release of the 2013 novel. [edit]
