Jim Butcher is an American author of fantasy and science fiction. He is most famous for his fantasy series The Dresden Files.
Butcher was born in Independence, Missouri, United States, on October 26, 1971.
He was introduced to fantasy and science fiction as a child when he read The Lord of the Rings and The Han Solo Adventures while sick in bed with strep throat, and produced his first book when he was a teenager.
It was then he decided to become a writer.
He made several unsuccessful attempts to enter the traditional fantasy genre before writing the first book in The Dresden Files, Storm Front, in 1996 as an exercise for a writing course.
After two years of floating his manuscript between publishers Ricia Mainhardt agreed to represent him, thus kick-starting his career.
In addition to The Dresden Files (currently at twelve novels), Butcher has also written a series entitled Codex Alera, comprising six novels.
The first four novels in The Dresden Files have been made available as audiobooks voiced by actor James Marsters under Buzzy Media Publishing, while in 2007 in was announced that Penguin Audio had purchased the rights to the remaining novels in the series.
The Dresden Files was also adapted for a television series.
Butcher is a New York Times bestselling author. He currently lives in Independence with his wife, Shannon K Butcher, his son, and his guard dog. [edit]
