Orson Scott Card attended Brigham Young High School in Utah and went on to Brigham Young University in 1968 to study archaeology. He experimented with acting and then began to write adaptations of novels for his theatre class.
After the publication of Ender's Game, Card won the 1978 John W Jr Campbell Award as the year's best new science fiction writer, and readers of OMNI magazine have voted him their favorite author.
"Mikal's Songbird','which forms a large part of Songmaster, won the Analog magazine readers' poll as the best novelette of the year, and was a runner-up for both the Hugo and Nebula awards.
