Background of Adopt-An-Author
The 21st century world owes a huge societal debt to the authors that have shaped our modern society through the medium of literature. Literature throughout the ages has teased us, intrigued us, educated us, and fired our imaginations, challenging us to be better than we are, to discover what we could be. Imaginative stories we have read have given us the ability to look at things in different ways, to tap the unexpected, to think outside the box, to imagine a new future.

Adopt-An-Author is a voluntary organization created to promote literacy through an online library of book titles and author information, classified by literary genre. Classifying literature by genre is a mammoth task. Not only do authors write in multiple genres, but any novel may be cross-classified across genres, giving rise to such genres as western-romance, or a fantasy-horror, or even the dreaded science-fiction-adventure-fantasy-erotic-romance thriller, in fact. In addition to these classification problems, any interpretation of genre is bound to be subjective, and, often, people will disagree as to what the main thrust of a stories' genre is. Therefore ...

Adopt-An-Author therefore welcomes any contributions of author information, title, genre and series data and other knowledge from users. Authors represented on this website include modern authors (this and the 20th century), and older authors, going back to antiquity. New authors and titles may be added. Author-related website links can be given. Members can write reviews, and adopt authors to moderate author content. Societies can be formed around an author which members can join. Members can publish their profiles and message one another. Author Society blogs can be published. Please see our about page for more information.

Adopt-An-Author hopes that this website will also serve as a useful reference for authors, publishers, agents and readers in general. Literature represented on this site includes science fiction, fantasy, children's books, general literature, horror and westerns. Also listed here are historical fiction, war literature, adventure tales, poetry, teenage fiction, thrillers, non-fiction, autobiographies, biographies and story collections. As far as possible we endeavour to supply accurate information but content reflected on this website is not necessarily correct or complete, and may often represent individual opinion.
